Predictably Scalia threw a hissy fit writing a separate opinion nearly as long as the majority, actually blasting Homeland Security's recent decision to suspend deportation of some young people.

I think a lot of people were unaware of just how partisan and fringe Scalia really is--and hopefully they will also realize that Alito and Thomas are right there with him. I see Scalia's rant as a good thing because now, more people will understand why we get rulings like "Citizen's United" when, to the average person, it would require a very skewed view of the Constitution to produce a decision like that.

Actually, they only left that particular statute standing because it had not yet been implemented. They had no basis upon which to rule it unconstitutional. The DOJ has set up a website for American citizens in Arizona to report bogus stops based on profiling. The S.Ct. decision stated that this statute would possibly be eventually declared invalid. It states that detention of someone, simply to verify citizenship, would raise concerns regarding constitutionality. Since Arpaio is known for doing this sort of thing and rounding up American citizens in error, it will not take long for someone to file a case which will bring down this particular statute.

The "papers please" portion of the law was declared un-Constitutional.
